The collection consists of three items: a signed, typewritten letter to the Literary editor of the Boston Evening Transcript, 10 July 1929, announcing the German edition of Sinclair's novel, Boston; a pamphlet in the form of a letter, May 1929, published by Sinclair and sent to his past customers, commenting on the Pulitzer Prize, his novel Boston, and his forthcoming book on psychic phenomena, including a list of his books offered for sale; and a circular published by Sinclair, containing excerpts from reviews of Boston from Great Britain.

Upton Sinclair was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1878. Sinclair was an American author, novelist, journalist, and political activist who wrote many books in several genres. He is most well-known for his exposé, The Jungle regarding conditions in Chicago's meat packing plants, which influenced the passage of the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906.
